Nightshade: A SimLit | Chapter 30: Marry Me
"Amelia?"
Amelia smiled at the sound of the familiar voice. She'd been sleepless for hours now, sitting on the edge of her bed, mindlessly staring off into nothing. As she stood, she glanced in his direction. "Hey, Onyx..."
"Amelia..." Onyx seemed unusually nervous, unable to hold her gaze. "I need to talk to you about something really important."
She frowned. "Is something wrong?"
"No," he shook his head. "Listen, can we go outside and talk? I need some fresh air. The balcony seems like a good place."
"Yeah, of course..." Amelia replied, feeling a bit worried. 'He's acting really strange. Is he lying that nothing's wrong?'
They walked quietly through the house, careful not to wake anyone as they went through the doors to the balcony.
As Onyx stepped out into the familiar silence of the night, memories flooded his mind of all the times they had been here in this exact place, secretly meeting up with each other...
"What did you need to talk to me about?" Amelia's voice was quiet, and he turned to look at her as a gentle breeze began to blow, causing strands of her hair to fall out of place; somehow they seemed to frame her face so perfectly.
He struggled to find the right words. "I... wanted to ask you something," he began, taking hold of her hands.
She met his gaze, curiosity in her eyes. "What is it?"
"Ever since that day you stood up against those bullies on my first day of school... I knew there was something special about you," he began. "You're everything to me. Through all the bad times in my life, you were there for me. You've been my best friend, and then so much more than that..." Onyx was trying not to stammer, refusing to let his nerves get the best of him as he dropped down onto one knee.
Amelia's eyes widened in realization of what was happening.
"I never want us to end, Amelia. I never want to let you go. I want to be with you for the rest of... eternity..." his voice faltered a little when he remembered her lack of immortality.
"So," he revealed the ring in his trembling hands, "Amelia Wesley, will you marry me?"
Amelia was stunned. Her heart was overflowing with so much emotion that it was helplessly pounding a million miles a minute in her chest. For a moment, she found herself unable to form words or thoughts; it was as if time was frozen as she stared down at the small diamond ring in his hands. But when her eyes wandered to meet his, gazing hopefully at her, waiting for an answer, tears formed in the corners of her eyes. "Y-Yes! Yes, of course I'll marry you!"
Onyx lit up brighter than the distant lights of the city buildings illuminating the balcony they stood on as he slid the ring onto her finger. "I-I... wish I could have gotten you something fancier, but..."
Amelia shook her head. "I think it's perfect, but I don't care about the ring, anyway. It's just a ring. You're what I want."
"Amelia..." He smiled and rose to his feet, opening his arms to her.
She threw herself at him, leaping into into them in a tackle that nearly knocked him over the railing.
"Woah!" Onyx laughed a little as he caught her. "I know you're excited, but be careful!"
"I am! Let's get married as soon as possible! Like... right now?"
"Right now!?" he laughed. "I'm not sure if that's possible!"
"Okay, then soon. We could throw something together in a few days, since we won't really be able to afford a fancy wedding anyway. I want to be yours..."
"You are mine," Onyx smiled. "But you're right. Maybe in a few days..."
"I know I'm yours, but... I want to be extra yours. The maximum amount." She wrapped an arm around his shoulders, soaking in the moment that she never wanted to end.
"I'm so happy you said yes..."
"I'm even happier you asked me," she replied. "I've never wanted anything more in my life than this."
"Neither have I," he said, putting her back down on her feet. "I'd love to stay longer, but I have to get home. I had an argument with my mom..."
"What?" she frowned. "Over what?"
"...she found out who the engagement ring was for..." Onyx laughed it off. "It's okay, though. She'll come around eventually... maybe."
"Oh..." Amelia sighed. "Can't wait to see what my mom thinks..."
"Everything will work out. I promise." Onyx took her hand. "I'll see you tomorrow. Okay?"
"Okay... Goodnight..." Amelia stood up on her tip toes and pressed a soft kiss to his lips.
Onyx eagerly leaned into the kiss, tightening his grip on her hand. At least for right now, everything was perfect, and Amelia knew she had made the right decision.
YEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
ReplyDeleteWhy do I get the feeling that something bad will happen to them? I'm happy that they're engaged, but imagine if their mothers find out...
ReplyDeleteThat's going to be fun to see. 🙄😂
